Colorado Maine Coon Cat Breeder
Snowy Mountain Maine Coons cattery is located in Northern Colorado at the base of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. We are a Maine Coon cat breeder and solely focus on the beautiful Maine Coon Cats. We primarily work with Ukrainian and Russian Maine Coon bloodlines. We work with the following Maine Coon bloodlines: Arman Pride Maine Coons, WildBeautyCoons, ArmoreCoon, KraiKristolin, and Volnacoon Maine Coons.
Our focus is on producing beautiful, healthy, well socialized Maine Coon kittens. We produce kittens in our pursuit of a beautiful Maine Coon kitten to show. In our hobby of showing Maine Coon kittens, we cannot keep every kitten we produce and make those available for adoption to qualified families.
When you adopt a kitten from us, we are here for the life of the kitten and well beyond. Our adopting families become friends and our extended family. We are always here to help out if you ever have a question, including after adopting your Maine Coon kitten.
We take pride in not only our Maine Coon cats and kittens, but on our communication and the entire kitten adoption process. Please know that we will treat you as how we would want to be treated during the entire adoption process. When considering to bring a new Maine Coon kitten into your family, a few thoughts come to mind such as: “How do I select a reputable Maine Coon cat breeder?” What separates a reputable or responsible breeder from a backyard breeder?
Finding a reputable Maine Coon cat breeder isn’t as hard as one would think if you know what to look for. A reputable cat breeder will be involved in showing cats and belong to cat clubs and organizations. A backyard breeder isn’t that into cats, isn’t involved in the cat world, and doesn’t stay on top of the latest medical protocols.
A reputable Maine Coon cat breeder NEVER sells or breeds cats without registration papers and only breeds pedigreed cats from champion and grand champion bloodlines. A backyard breeder uses breeding cats that consists mostly of pets bred by other backyard breeders, typically these cats are not shown or of show quality or meet breed standard.
A reputable and responsible Maine Coon cat breeder is knowledgeable in every facet of the breed, including breed specific health issues and defects. A backyard breeder is not particularly educated about the breed and often not aware of the breed’s genetic defects.
A reputable and responsible Maine Coon cat breeder can provide references, knows the kitten’s ancestry, follows up on a kitten after the kitten has been adopted. A reputable breeder is available to answer any and all questions pertaining to a kitten and feels that no question is “a dumb question.” A responsible breeder doesn’t sell kittens to impulse buyers, interviews prospective buyers, checks references and refuses to place a kitten in a home where he/she feels the kitten will be abuse or receive substandard home.
A reputable, responsible Maine Coon cat breeder knows the different personalities of the kittens and attempts to match their temperaments and drives with the buyers’ personalities and lifestyles. For example, a kitten who is very reserved, shy and quiet would not be best suited in a home of high activity level with children and other animals. A backyard breeder cares nothing of matching or understanding personality traits.
A reputable responsible Maine Coon cat breeder can honestly evaluate a kitten’s quality and only breeds cats which meet the standard of the breed. A backyard breeder claims all kittens are high quality and the breeding cats rarely meet breed standard.
A reputable breeder socializes kittens by handling and exposing them to various noises, children and other animals before sending them to new homes. A backyard breeder does not understand or want to be troubled with any kind of social training and tries to keep kittens out from underfoot until sold.
A reputable breeder will provide a clean environment for the animals, vet the animals on a regular basis, vaccinate and offer a written health guarantee. A backyard breeder will most likely have a dirty smelly environment for the animals and the animals are not often taken to the vet for regular care, the cats and kittens are not vaccinated, no guarantee of health is offered and quite often the animals are sickly.
Now you know the differences between a responsible or reputable cat breeder and a backyard breeder. We hope to help you find the Maine Coon kitten of your dreams.

More Maine Coon Cat Breed Information
As Described by the Cat Fancier’s Association, their description of the beautiful Maine Coon cat is as follows:
The Maine Coon Cat is the native American long-haired cat and was first recognized as a specific breed in Maine where it was named the official cat of the state. These cats were held in high regard by the locals for their mousing talents and special competitions were even held to reward the best “Coon Cat.”
The Maine Coon cat evolved through nature’s own breeding program developing characteristics by following a “survival of the fittest” evolution. The characteristics all have a purpose or function. Maine Coon cats developed into sturdy, working cats suited to the harsh winters and varied seasons of the Northeast region. The Maine Coon Cat of today is known for a sturdy, rugged appearance, which includes an uneven, shaggy coat of three distinct lengths and a long, well furnished tail. They carry that tail proudly and use it to surround themselves for warmth and protection. A Maine Coon Cat has large, well tufted paws to allow ability to walk on top of snow despite size and weight. Ears are large and well tufted for protection and warmth. Even more than for beauty, Maine Coon Cats are noted for intelligence and kindly disposition. After all, what they couldn’t obtain themselves, they could always get by charming a nearby human. Though their size can be intimidating, they are known for their friendliness towards just about anything and are especially good with children and other pets. For these reasons, they have been dubbed the “Gentle Giant” of the cat fancy and are commonly sought after as family pets, companions, and therapy cats.
Maine Coon Cats are intelligent, trainable, described as “dog like”. They will offer you hours of enjoyment with their antics but can at times be intrusive. Without question they want to be part of everything and your privacy may require a closed door between you and your cat. Most Maine Coon Cats have a fondness of water, to be in it, watch it, wash their food in it, or just plain play in it, so don’t be surprised if you have an uninvited guest in your shower or help washing the dishes on any given day.
The Maine Coon Cat has a silky and somewhat oily coat, it is not dense and its upkeep is much easier than that of other longhaired breeds. The coat is almost self-maintained but will require occasional grooming. Because they love attention of any kind, grooming is easily accomplished.
Maine Coon Cats are an affordable pedigreed addition to any household. Prices vary in different areas of the country and overseas, depending on an individual breeder’s guidelines. “Show” vs. “pet” qualities are often a determining factor as well as the pedigree or titles held by the cats in the kitten’s lineage or “family tree.” However, many breeders offer retired show or breeding cats at a reduced cost to welcoming homes.
Kittens are normally available after 12 weeks of age, once they have been cleared by our veterinarian, are weaned, fully eating independently, physically stable, and have received their basic inoculations at eight and 12 weeks of age as well as age appropriate deworming. Socialization, additional examinations, testing and/or guarantees will vary from breeder to breeder. Maine Coon Cats and kittens are available from reputable CFA breeders in most areas in the U.S., Canada, and overseas, however, the transportation of cats/kittens to new homes depends on the individual breeder’s practices.
Your new Maine Coon Cat addition should be kept indoors, spayed/neutered (if adopted as a pet) and shall be provided proper nutrition and acceptable environment for expression of natural behavior, for example, clean litter pans and scratching surfaces (CFA disapproves of declawing or tendonectomy surgery and most breeders will have related stipulations as part of their contract).
Available in a variety of about 75 different color combinations (with the exception of pointed pattern and colors) and two acceptable tabby patterns (classic and mackerel), there is a Maine Coon kitten just right for anyone. Although it is impossible to predict longevity, with proper care and nutrition, your Maine Coon Cat should give you many years of love, enjoyment, and companionship.
Colorado Maine Coon Cat Breeder
CFA Breed Standard for Maine Coon
GENERAL: originally a working cat, the Maine Coon is solid, rugged, and can endure a harsh climate. A distinctive characteristic is its smooth, shaggy coat. A well proportioned and balanced appearance with no part of the cat being exaggerated. Quality should never be sacrificed for size. With an essentially amiable disposition, it has adapted to varied environments.
HEAD SHAPE: medium in width and slightly longer in length than width with a squareness to the muzzle. Allowance should be made for broadening in older studs. Cheekbones high.
MUZZLE/CHIN: is visibly square, medium in length and blunt ended when viewed in profile. It may give the appearance of being a rectangle but should not appear to be tapering or pointed. Length and width of the muzzle should be proportionate to the rest of the head and present a pleasant, balanced appearance. The chin should be strong, firm and in line with the upper lip and nose. When viewed in profile the chin depth should be observable and give the impression of a square, 90-degree angle. A chin lacking in depth, i.e. one that tapers from the jaw line to the lip, is not considered strong, firm or desirable.
PROFILE: should be proportionate to the overall length of the head and should exhibit a slight concavity when viewed in profile. The profile should be relatively smooth and free of pronounced bumps and/or humps. A profile that is straight from the brow line to the tip of the nose is not acceptable, nor should the profile show signs of having a “break” or “stop.”
EARS: Shape: large, well-tufted, wide at base, tapering to appear pointed. Set: approximately one ear’s width apart at the base; not flared.
EYES: large, expressive, wide set with an opened oval shape. Slightly oblique setting with slant toward outer base of ear.
NECK: medium long.
BODY SHAPE: muscular, broad-chested. Size medium to large. Females generally are smaller than males. The body should be long with all parts in proportion to create a well-balanced rectangular appearance with no part of the anatomy being so exaggerated as to foster weakness. Allowance should be made for slow maturation.
LEGS and FEET: legs substantial, wide set, of medium length, and in proportion to the body. Forelegs are straight. Back legs are straight when viewed from behind. Paws large, round, well-tufted. Five toes in front; four in back.
TAIL: long, wide at base, and tapering. Fur long and flowing.
COAT: heavy and shaggy; shorter on the shoulders and longer on the stomach and britches. Frontal ruff desirable. Texture silky with coat falling smoothly.
PENALIZE: a coat that is short or overall even.
DISQUALIFY: delicate bone structure. Undershot chin, i.e. the front teeth (incisors) of the lower jaw overlapping or projecting beyond the front teeth of the upper jaw when the mouth is closed. Crossed eyes. Kinked tail. Incorrect number of toes. White buttons, white lockets, or white spots. Cats showing evidence of hybridization resulting in the colors chocolate, lavender, or the Himalayan pattern.
MAINE COON CAT COLORS
EYE COLOR: eye color can be shades of green, gold, green-gold or copper. White cats and all cats with white may have blue or odd eyes.

Several unbroken necklaces on neck and upper chest, the more the better. Frown marks on forehead form an intricate letter “M.” Unbroken line runs back from outer corner of eye. Swirls on cheeks. Vertical lines over back of head extend to shoulder markings which are in the shape of a butterfly with both upper and lower wings distinctly outlined and marked with dots inside outline. Back markings consist of a vertical line down the spine from butterfly to tail with a vertical stripe paralleling it on each side, the three stripes well separated by stripes of the ground color. Large solid blotch on each side to be encircled by one or more unbroken rings. Side markings should be the same on both sides. Double vertical rows of buttons on chest and stomach.
MACKEREL TABBY PATTERN: markings dense, clearly defined, and all narrow pencillings. Legs evenly barred with narrow bracelets coming up to meet the body markings. Tail barred. Necklaces on neck and chest distinct, like so many chains. Head barred with an “M” on the forehead. Unbroken lines running back from the eyes. Lines running down the head to meet the shoulders. Spine lines run together to form a narrow saddle. Narrow pencillings run around body.
TICKED TABBY PATTERN: shows pronounced ticking on body and when viewed from above will show darkening at the dorsal crest but will otherwise be free from pattern or any noticeable spots, stripes or blotches.
